The History of the Dutch Oven

When you enjoy the great outdoors and cooking camp-fire meals, you will find that you may have an interest in learning about the history of the Dutch oven. While it isn’t a necessity for you to learn about this long history of the Dutch oven to enjoy cooking with one; it may very well help you to appreciate your handy cooking helper that much more while you are out in the wilderness.

As you already know, Dutch ovens are usually thick walled cast iron cooking bots with a tight fitting lid. However, did you know that they have been used to prepare meals for hundreds of years, rather than some of our more modern cookware items? Not only are they popular today, they were some of the first cooking pots to be developed.

The Dutch oven has a history both in America and throughout Early European history. From the late 1600’s in Europe to more modern times on America when Dutch ovens were used by new-found American Colonies; they became one of the only cooking methods available to earlier settlers. However, despite this long history and the availability of many different cooking pots on the market; you will find that the Dutch oven is just as popular today as it was in the earlier years!
