First is the classic “tin foil in the fire” option. This is simple, easy, affordable, and fun. You don't have to bring anything but a roll of tin foil, and you can cook a lot of food this way. Simply tossing most vegetables, and even meats, inside of tin foil and then putting it into the fire will lead to successful outdoor cooking. Clean up is also pretty simple – just recycle everything! Another option is to use a spit or grill over the fire. Some areas are equipped for just that. The grill is definitely the easier option, but a spit can be set up for a lot of foods that require slow roasting. Grills for outdoor cooking can also be found pretty easily, and give a unique flavor and the options of things like burgers, ribs, and so on – something tin foil just can't do! Outdoor cooking is always at its best for me when it's dutch ovens, though. Dutch ovens are classic. They allow for even cooking of the food that's inside of it, add some additional flavor, and with additions like dutch oven liners, they're easy to clean up. You can always make your own dutch oven liners if you're clever with tin foil, too! Whatever you choose for outdoor cooking, the important thing is that you're doing it. Outdoor cooking is fun and it gets you out into nature, gets you a workout, and provides some of the best bonding times you'll ever have. |
