Cooking Thermometers

Cooking thermometers are important to the process of Dutch oven cooking because you sometimes have to be very observant to the temperature of the food you’re cooking.  If it’s too many degrees colder or hotter, you’re going to have a batch of inedible food or food that’s nowhere as good as it should be.  Since you can’t set your Dutch oven to a particular temperature like you can with an electric oven at your home, figuring out how hot or cold your food can be is an impossible process.  You need cooking thermometers to determine the exact temperature of your food.  It’s better to buy a more expensive thermometer than an affordable one because they’re more likely to give you the most accurate reading.
When you’re using a cooking thermometer, you should observe what needs to be done to keep it in working condition.  Cooking thermometers that aren’t digital have a way of breaking very easily.  One wrong move could lead to them breaking, which would leave you dead in the water as far as knowing the temperature of your food goes.  We recommend that you buy several cooking thermometers in case on breaks.  That doesn’t mean you should go through them like they’re disposable razors or toilet paper; it means you can use them freely without being cautious to the point of paranoia.  If one breaks, you can just reach for the next one and hope the same thing doesn’t to your spare thermometer.  It’s always good to have a handful on hand for this kind of situation.
